Lithuania

In Lithuania, diabetes care and medicines are available to all, free of charge. However, people living with diabetes face some challenges, such as a limited number of needles and test strips free of charge. Another challenge is the shortage of healthcare professionals, resulting in long waiting lists for family doctors.

Diabetes nurses play an important role in diabetes education and are authorized to renew prescriptions for medication.

A national diabetes plan is currently under development.
